people connected to public transport thanks to this service
The Demand-Responsive Transport service developed by Padam Mobility is designed to complement the few regular transport lines operating in the area. This model differs from traditional transport services by offering flexible schedules and itineraries, adapted to users' needs. Costing the same to the user as a conventional public transport ticket, it enables authorities to serve a larger area while saving money. The DRT project in Spain is particularly aimed at older people with mobility problems, and is part of a wider strategy to combat inequality and the desertification of rural areas in Spain. By making it easier for people living in less densely populated areas to access the services offered in surrounding towns, this service actively contributes to countering the depopulation that is rife in these areas.
Indeed, the areas selected for the implementation of these services are described as "extremely sparsely populated", with a population density of less than eight inhabitants per kilometre square. Together, they cover 94% of the surface area and 93% of the municipalities in the province of Guadalajara, and are home to 45,379 people, or almost 20% of the province's total population.
