Expressbus Pfaffenhofen, Demand-Responsive Transport in Pfaffenhofen germany

In early 2022, the Pfaffenhofen city bus has been extended by three on-demand lines: From now on, lines 4 to 6 will be operated as “express bus lines”. Users will be able to book journeys on these lines via app, website or call centre up to 30 minutes before the departure time. 

At the weekend, more precisely from Saturday noon, lines 1 to 3 will also become express bus lines and can then be booked as needed, just like the other three express bus lines. A win-win situation for the operator and the passengers, because this not only avoids empty trips, but at the same time also skips stops at which nobody wants to get on or off, which significantly reduces the overall travel time.  

Since 2018, the city has already been offering free rides on the city bus, which should not only make life in the small town more pleasant for the over 26,000 residents, but also encourage them to switch to the bus, for example, to get to the city centre or the train station. In order to make the transport offer even more customer-oriented and the entire operational process more efficient, Pfaffenhofen decided last year to bring Padam Mobility on board. With its expertise, the specialist for on-demand mobility should, among other things, ensure that local public transport in the city is managed in a simpler, smarter and more resource-saving way. Currently, three vehicles are in operation on the express bus routes, which will be increased by three more vehicles in the foreseeable future in order to be able to meet the customers’ demands. The buses can be booked from about 5:30 am to 8:30 pm on weekdays and from 8:30 am to 10:00 pm on weekends. However, the times of the express routes vary, therefore it is recommended for all interested passengers to take a look at the service brochure (in German).

We are very satisfied with the results so far. The user feedback is very positive. The new booking option via app is also being accepted above average. So far, 74% of all bookings have been made via the app, followed by 21% via the call centre.
